Gorgeous scenery
This course was a great value for those who enjoy the scenery beyond the course offerings. Lots of wildlife and nature views, and oxen view and lots of amazing houses. Falcons owner Arthur blanks house was quite a site. Was paired up withthe employees of sea lines who provided a great tour so to speak. The cheapest of the sea pines courses but the prettiest and most amenable to novice golfers.
fairly decent course
This is an excellent course for beginners who want to play on a nice course. No real challenging parts of the course and it is fairly short even from the back tees. Most greens had pitch marks all over the green which made it impossible to hole long putts. Some areas of the greens were good and some where awful. With me being a 7 handicap it was very easy to shoot a 79 from the back tees and didn't test my skills. Great for families or beginner golfers trying to learn the game.
Still Love This Course
Year in and year out this is still one of my favorite courses on HHI. Course is in excellent condition, greens running true and good bunkers. Staff always friendly and everything first rate. I almost hate that it is going to be re-designed but will just have to wait and see what the end result is. Fairly generous fairways and usually a wind in your face on the last couple of holes.
Greens of distinction? NOT
We were set up by a professional staff and excellent conditions on the practice areas. However, I can only say the greens on Ocean course were a massive disapointment. The practice greens were fabulous but the greens on the course litterally had plugs all over them. Huge areas of replanted sod on the greens led to real challenges in judging speeds. Other than that it was a good course. All the other resort course distractions, bike riders, constant mowers/maintenance equipment etc., were a bit challenging but nott horrible. I coughed uo an extra $5 for the yardage book and found it quite helpful as it appeared there were many holes that you could run though the fairway and end up out of bounds but using the book allowed me to see that and club appropriately. Not a bump and run course even though it kinds of looks like that on a number of holes. A good test of golf other than the greens. I suspect those will be in good shape in a few weeks.
Too much risk, not enough reward
This course was in good condition but the layout, a typical residential course, had way too much out of bounds to be enjoyable. I don't mind doglegs that make you hit alternate clubs off the tee but to hit a perfect, straight drive 10-20 yard through the fairway and have it be out of bounds in someone's backyard gets old after awhile. The course was fun to play, or maybe it was our foursome, but it had its share of frustrations on shots we thought were well played.
tough course, but no actual ocean!
played this course the same day as its sister course (heron point). this layout is definitely more challenging, despite being a little softer. there is a lot of water in play, but no actual ocean views. the scenery is still quite beautiful though.
Not worth the money!
Upon arrival yesterday afternoon to play a round of golf at the Ocean Course and paying, we were advised that they had over seeded and it was cart path only. Unfortunately, this was a problem because we had an 87 year old playing with us and we should have been advised when making tee time and/or before we paid. No handicap flag, no running the rough and no help...not a good start to an overpriced round of golf. Course was OK at best but the day was pretty so we overlooked the issues. Unfortunately, when we made the turn they started watering the holes in front of use. Super wet and muddy and cart path only....wow, not a good combo...87 year old had to stop playing...what ashame! Golfed a lot of fabulous courses and this was not one of them. A simple notice at making our tee time and/or discounting our rounds would have made it much better. Overrated!! They should really be more considerant to their customers and less on the snobby behavior...can't compare to courses in Myrtle Beach...
One of HHI's best tracks...
Everyone wants to play Harbour Town, and rightfully so, but the Ocean Course at Sea Pines should not be overlooked.
For starters, the newly renovated clubhouse is spectacular. It gives the whole facility a beautiful, stately presence.
The course is a treat too. You have to bring your A-game off the tee as this is a very difficult course if you're struggling with the driver in your hand. It's very intimidating while standing on the tee. But once you find the fairway there seems to be much more room hitting into the greens.
The par-3 15th hole is a treat as it faces toward the beach. Then the closing three holes are all you can handle.
I played with my 7-year-old son on this day and loved that they have a family tee on each whole, which totals about 3,600 yards. This was perfect for him and greatly appreciated.
Would love to go back again and play another round.
Good as Always
I have played the Ocean Course at Sea Pines 3 times now. Twice on Memorial Day Weekend and once in the winter. To be honest the greens were in better shape in the winter than they were around Memorial Day both times. Not that they were bad, just that in winter they were perfect. Anyway this review is about my last trip. The course was in good shape, fairways had full coverage and were mowed tight, rough not too rough on us amateurs. Traps were in good shape as were the tee boxes. Large Driving range though it was really chewed up. Brand new clubhouse that is top of the line. Course is fun to play without being overwhelming. Plenty of challenge for most golfers I would think. I love the layout and character of the course. You start and end very tough in my opinion but holes 3-16 give you a chance for a good score. Alot of people claim the course favors a fade or slice of the ball, and it does on alot of holes, but not #s 1,2,17,18. Anyway, had a great time at a good course and cant wait to do it again.
